The journey of life makes us want to be the best we possibly can but we often face many triggers and challenges. I believe that we can live a fuller and more deeply connected life by being kind to ourselves, building maximal awareness and being intentional with our space, what we consume, our habits and our actions.
This is self work within the context of our households and whole family - therefore creating positive impact not only for ourselves but for the world around us.
My name is Jen and I am the mother of one to my daughter Orla. The teachings within my methods are drawn from a blended approach - what I have learnt educationally, settings I have worked in and every day life experiences. These lessons are the fuel for my work, which continues to grow and expand infinitely. Spaces and The Energy Mumma is place where people can come to learn a paradigm for conscious living.
Prior to having a baby I worked in a corporate setting for 13 years in Child and Adult Safeguarding. Through my work and training I learnt about how people's childhoods, life events and trauma have impacted them and generationally how that has been passed down to their children, and so forth it ripples on down. Some of the cases I dealt with were severe and so trauma was expected, but there were many cases where you wouldn’t necessarily class the situation as highly negative, yet the child still experienced negative and traumatic symptoms. I enjoyed my work in safeguarding but it was reactive, the damage was already done and I felt I was being pulled to move into a way of helping in a more closely to the root, hopefully before damaging events may happen.
Since a very young age, I have always had an innate interest and awareness in well-being, the spiritual world I experienced intuitive abilities. This lead me to do a course in reflexology when I was 18 followed by Indian Head Massage shortly after but at this stage I didn’t couldn’t pin point what I was looking for.
I was very aware throughout my twenties that I felt much better when there was no clutter in my room (at that age it meant stuffing it all into draws and wardrobes and didn’t go much further than that) but this later developed into a much deeper practice influenced by Marie Kondo, the well known Japanese tidying expert and Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese art of arranging buildings, objects and spaces in an environment to achieve harmony and balance.
By my mid twenties I had an array of practices on the go, from using crystals for myself and in my space to reading about the law of attraction and quantum physics. I couldn’t get enough of this world but it was vast and I had no idea how to put it together to form something I could follow as a career. I struggled to pick just one area to focus solely on when I knew everything was so connected.
A major turning point was when a friend completed her Reiki level one course and said to me that I would love it so I signed up not knowing too much about it. I had received reiki once from a friend I was working with as a part of a team of practitioners in a holistic treatment shop as a reflexologist alongside my job in Safeguarding. I was able to go into the course knowing that it had a strong effect on me during and after my treatment.
Within the next few years I was fully introduced to the world of energy. I completed reiki level one, two and master level. By the time I completed the master course I had left my corporate job and had started working as a professional organiser, affiliated with the governing body - The Association of Professional Declutteres & Organisers (APDO) with a focus on mindful consumerism and a holistic approach to working with clients. I also completed a Space Clearing diploma.
As my learnings continued, I became more interested in trauma. Generational trauma and patterns, trauma manifesting in the body and causing illness trauma manifesting in the body from childhood experiences and life experiences and how this manifested itself in people homes. Gabor Mate - a leading physician in this area has revolutionised my way of life through his teachings.
ALL of the above teamed with what I learnt in my time in Safeguarding lead me to know that to help children, who are ultimately the future of our world, we must do more to look after adults. I don’t just mean this in the parent / child dynamic but in all roles that all adults in some way have with the younger generation - family members, family friends, teachers, coaches, literally any adult individual - we are all role models in some way, shape or form. As we see a huge increase of mental and physical health problems in adults we see the same reflected in children. I believe this is because people are largely struggling with the disconnection from our true authentic selves under the pressure of modern day living.
As my daughter Orla was coming into the world I had a sense that I must do all I can to be the best version of myself for her so that she doesn’t have to do the amount of self work and endless research that I have had to do/and am still doing.
This lead to a lot of deep soul searching and trying to put all of my knowledge, teachings and life experiences into something meaningful. Motherhood and the strong sense of responsibility for another life has triggered my whole perspective on humanity asking questions such as, why do people have trauma? How does it affect their lives? How does it affect their children’s lives? Why are people suffering from disconnection from their selves and from the earth? Why are people struggling? Why are people surviving and not thriving? How can we fix it? And how does ‘energy’ fit into all of this?
I continued my practices and after I gave birth I was launched into the rich mix of motherhood and the mirror that it has held up to me - it is experience that is complementing and fuelling my passion for my work. A blended approach from professional and life experiences with the sum of a really wide area of study. Spaces & Energy Mumma is unique in bringing these perspectives together to build a paradigm for conscious living. It will constantly evolve and I will forever be learning.
